What Operating system are your web servers running on?
Our web servers run on Red Hat Linux.
I have Windows 95/98/2000 on my personal computer.
Do
I need to learn Linux to host my site?
A. The operating system of your computer does not come into play when deciding
hosting options. The server is independent of your machine type. So we can host
sites created with any platform! You do not need to know
Linux to host with us.
Do you offer dial-up Internet access?
No, you will need local Internet access in order to
maintain your website and retrieve e-mail addressed to
your site.
Are there any other fees for
your hosting plans other than the listed monthly fees and the $20.00 annual domain registration fee?
No,
There are no "hidden" fees associated with any
of our hosting plans. The only fees that you will be
charged are the ones shown in our plans page www.netbasiks.com/plans.htm.
The $20/year Domain Registration fee is also inclusive of
all registry fees.
Do you support FrontPage 2000
Extensions?
Yes we
offer FrontPage 2000 Extensions free with ALL our hosting
accounts.
What are the transfer limits
for your hosting account? What happens if I go over the allotted limits?
Our Basik plan comes with a generous 5000 MB data transfer limit per month.
You will only receive a warning mail if you exceed the 5000 MB limit once a while without being penalized. If you consistently exceed the 5000MB/month limit, only then will we require you to purchase
extra bandwidth for that particular month. It has been our experience that most of our customers are way below this limit. Our advanced Control Panel lets you set the limit when you want to receive a warning when you are about to exceed the limit (Eg. you can set to receive an alert if you cross 4800MB/Month).
The transfer limit for our Commerce plan is 7000MB and for
our Professional and Reseller plan is 10000MB. Bandwidth can be purchased for $10/mo for an additional 1000MB.
Are there any restrictions for email -- either volume or file size?
The total number of POP email accounts that you can setup in the Basik plan is 100 emails. You have the ability to send and receive unlimited emails.
You also have unlimited email forwards and aliases. The total disk space allocated to you in the Basik plan is 50MB. This includes all your emails, html files, image files, CGI or pl scripts, databases etc. So all your files need to be within the 50MB limit. There is no limit to the size of each email account, as long as it is under the total allocated 50MB limit.
The Commerce plan has 200 POP emails and 100MB disk space
while the Professional plan has unlimited POP emails and 200MB of disk space. Extra disk space can be bought in blocks of 50MB for an extra $10/month.
How can I order a subdomain? How do subdomains work?
Subdomains are ordered just like regular domains. You do not have to register a
subdomain with a domain registrar, however. We allow subdomains but charge them
as regular accounts. If you would like to order one, simply put the full
address in the Domain Name box in our oeder form. The format should be
something.domain.com, where domain.com is a domain we host on our servers. We
also offer the flexibility to become a subdomain of ourselves, with an address of
yourname.netbasiks.com. The advantage? You save the annual registration
fees from a domain registrar, while still having the same functionality as any
regular domain account. This can be a saving of upto $35/year.
What is a Domain Pointer? How does a pointer work?
A pointer is another domain name that
you register, but it contains no content. Instead, a pointer redirects traffic
to another existing domain. For example, if "site2.com" is a pointer to
"site1.com" when people type "site2.com" in their browser they will be directed
to "site1.com". You can also register a pointer with search engines. All emails sent to
"site2.com" will also be redirected to
"site1.com".
You can order a pointer by emailing us. The cost of setting up a pointer
$20/year.
What database system do you
offer? How must does it cost?
We offer MySQL. We have found that our members prefer MySQL
because it is a relatively easy-to-use database program.
MySQL is offered FREE with Commerce and higher plans.
Can I set up forms for secure transmission?
Yes. We offer a generic 128bit certificate FREE of charge
to ALL our clients. This way you can secure your online
transactions.
Do you offer backward compatibility browser detection?
Yes.
Does each virtual server have its own raw log files?
Yes. You have your own raw log files.
Can we set up password protected areas with htaccess?
Yes you can.
Which languages are supported in CGI(e.g. Bourne shell,
Perl, Java)?
Bourne, Shell, and Perl are all supported and
available.

Yes, a personal CGI-BIN is provided free with ALL accounts.

No. A generic 128bit certificate FREE of charge to ALL our
clients. It is a free standard feature. If you require a
personal SSL certificate for your domain, you must acquire
a secure certificate from Thawte or Verisign and we will
install it for you.
Does netbasiks.com
offer SSI?
SSI is on all of our servers. You just need to be sure
that you call your files with the .shtml extension.
What cgi scripts are preinstalled?
pgpmail.pl, formmail.pl and count.cgi
What is CGI access?
CGI scripts (Common Gateway Interface) are used to provide
things like counters, form responses, guest books, and
many other things. netbasiks.com
gives you full CGI access for
no extra charge! You can write your own scripts, install
someone else's, or use one of our preinstalled CGI
scripts.
My site is not working??????
Check the www directory in the file manager and see if the
index page is named index.html. It should be index.html.

Can I pay with credit card or do I need to issue a check?
We prefer payments by Credit Cards. However if you pay by check, your
account will not be activated until your check is cleared.
If you are an Increment
Reseller you must pay by credit card in a monthly billing
cycle.

You must pay the full year up front.
What does it cost to transfer a the domain name (with
you, with Network Solutions)?
There is no fee for transferring your domain to netbasiks.com
from us or Network Solutions.
Do you charge additional fees for

No. It is included in our packages.

What is a virtual domain?
A Virtual Domain means having your own domain (http://www.your-name.com)
without having to install expensive server hardware and
software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's
storage space, however, you are still professionally
represented via your own personal Internet web address
domain name (www.yourname.com) and by your own personal
e-mail address domain name (you@yourname.com).
Can I access my domain address with or without the
"www"?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or
without the "www" in front of the domain name.
What steps do I need to take to set-up a virtual domain at
netbasiks.com?
Simply signup with us by filling out a our online order
form. It's that simple!
What is the time needed to make
space on your server available?
Space will be made available in less than 30 minutes! Once
an account is set-up an activation notice will be sent to
you via e-mail including your user-ID, password, and your
IP address.

support Macintosh systems?
Sure. You can use the Fetch program to transfer files from
your MAC to our system. You can also use SSH and the
POP e-mail programs like Eudora, Claris E-mail and
Netscape Mail.
Is a shell account included?
No, it is not included.
Do you host foreign domains?
Yes, we host all types of foreign and domestic domains.
Can
I resell my space to have subdomains?
We only allow 1 domain name per IP address. You can
have pointed domains but we do not allow the sharing of
web space.
How
much is extra bandwidth and/or storage space?
It is $10/gig per month with a limit of 10 gig total. It
is $10/month for 50MB of extra storage space. Up to 300MB
total.
Do
you offer shopping cart software?
Yes, our shopping cart comes with our Commerce,
Professional and Reseller Plans.
Do you have CGI.pm installed and
useable on a Basik

account?

Questions
What programs can be used to access e-mail?
All POP clients can be used: Eudora, Netscape mail,
Outlook, etc. You can use any program which downloads the
files from our server onto your computer. You can use mail
user agents which run on our servers (such as pine), with
a special configuration. You cannot use IMAP programs.
What is an email alias and is it
unlimited?
An e-mail alias means if you send mail to webmaster@netbasiks.com,
that address is aliased to whomever needs to receive it.
It can be one person or multiple people, however you need
it structured. It is unlimited--get as many as you need
for no extra charge!
Is there a limit to how many email
accounts can be forwarded?
No! The only limit is the quantity of email accounts your
current plan has.
May I promote my
web site
with bulk email?
Spamming is in violation of our service agreement. There
are legal and ethical issues involved in mass mailing of
unsolicited email. Any user of our services who has sent unsolicited email will have their account
closed within 24 hours.
How can I manage my e-mail users (add/remove/update)?
To add or delete POP boxes, use Mail Manager
http://www.yourdomain.com/menu. You can redirect mail by
editing the address, un-forwarding to the POP box (which
deletes it if that's the only reference to it) and
forwarding to whatever email address you desire.
Do the auto responders quote the message?
No, they do not.
Do you have sendmail installed?
Yes.

Network Solutions is an independent organization
responsible for holding the registration and routing of
Internet domain names.
Do you have to have a domain name to sign up for a hosting
plan?
Yes, all customers must have a domain name to get an
account. You can register one at netbasiks.com
for only $20/yr.

Do you have FTP and FTP Anonymous access?
Yes, we provide both FTP and FTP Anonymous access with our accounts.
Do you have a limit on the FTP transfer?
No! There is no limit. You can update your pages an
unlimited amount of times, at any time you wish.

Are your virtual servers able to work with old and
text-mode browsers?
Our servers will work with text-mode browsers like
Lynx because they are truly virtual--you get your very own
IP address on the web server.
What kind of uptime do your servers have?
Our Network Operations Center has a 99.9% uptime rating. Our servers are
monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What web server do your servers run?

What are your server types?
We use LINUX Red Hat.
How many client sites are put on each web server?
We keep the peak CPU load below 10% on all machines.
Sometimes, we move clients to keep the server CPU within
limits.

No, cgi scripts must be kept in the cgi-bin
directory.
